- Research has found that certain nutrients in breastmilk will be lost when the temperature of the milk is above 50℃ (122℉). But for baby formula, it has to be mixed with hot water at a temperature of over 70℃ (158℉) to kill the bacteria Salmonella and Enterobacter sakazakii, which might be present in some baby formula.

For example, green light means the temperature range is 36 to 45℃, which is suitable for infants to drink the beverage; red light means the temperature is over 86℃, which would be too hot for infants.
